Favourite 4: Isekai anime shows I enjoyed watching

Which of these 4 anime isekai shows did I enjoy?.

It’s been a good long while since I did my fav 4 post. As usual minions, all those that are nominated are free to participate with their own entry numbers. For those that can’t nominate or can’t be bothered to write a post, they’re free to respond in the comment section.

Got that? good.

So, isekai. Why, isekai?. Why not? I mean who wouldn’t want to be whisked away to another world, with all the stuff that’s happening around us, so why not indulge ourselves in a bit of it.

The isekai genre has certainly taken off in the years, it’s almost replaced traditional fantasy, to the point where most anime fans are actually sick of it, I’m not sick of it though, sure there are some really bad clangers of shows (looking at you cheat magician). So, with this favourite 4 post, I’m looking at which isekai shows I enjoyed.

Grimgar of fantasy and ash

The grimgar of ash and fantasy

Oh boy it’s been a very, very long time since I last saw grimgar of fantasy and ash. I remember distinctly that when it first aired, I had trouble with the pacing, thus stalling on it. However, at some point I went back to it. And in all honestly, I’m glad I did.

Watching it, I got hooked. Doing it from memory is definitely going to be a tough one, so a lot of looking back at the character’s name on wiki etc. I do remember just how gorgeous the art was. However, that was quite deceptive. As the actual show is dark, <<spoilers>>

I remember the priest Manato getting killed, leaving Haruhiro the thief to lead the group. I also remember the group having a very hard time dealing and even coping with the loss of Manato. And accepting a new priest Merry. In essence; dealing with grief, acceptance, working together and understanding each other were the main themes I picked up on. I did enjoy their tank saying “thanks” instead of his move skill.

Too bad there isn’t a 2nd season, would have enjoyed it.

Overlord - albedo

Can’t wait for season 4 of Overlord. As any fans would tell you season 2, is the weakest. I mean it had… lizard ecchi, let’s put it that in a mild way. Season 3 is by much stronger than S2, it went back to its roots of showing Ainz Ooal Gown being a bad ass. Of course, Albedo being…Albedo

Also, it’s pretty dark. I mean the humans are actually for once are on the losing end. They aren’t powerful or beating down other demi or non-humans. Also, Ainz is just so bad ass and well over powered in this world.

Log horizon

Log horizon season 3

“Database, database, you’re living in the database wow wow!” – man that song is legendary. Log horizon, is one of my fav shows. As an mmo player, I can relate to the mmo side of log horizon a lot. I guess the other side of it really puts people off – as it’s focuses on world building. Can’t really blame Shiro though, I mean with a whole bunch of people stuck or transported to and living in the game. You have to set some governance down, otherwise anarchy.

I did enjoy S1, S2 wasn’t bad to be honest. It focused on players who weren’t adapted or low levelled. It’s pretty a common thing to find in most mmos these days. Players don’t do raids, or high-end game content. Or are just starting out and are finding their feet in the game. Something to which I can relate to. S3, I felt it was rushed.

The rising of the shield hero

The rising of the shield hero

I’m going to be honest, I actually came across the rising of the shield hero light novel whilst browsing on amazon. I made a note of it, but didn’t purchase the first novel. Fast forward to now, and lo and behold an anime adaptation is made. I actually enjoyed shield hero, I felt the injustice of Naofumi being ostracised by the very world he got brought in to.

I really like the system shield hero uses, legendary heroes are unable to equip any other weapons, except the weapon they wield. However, by levelling up weapon skills or “feeding” that weapon via a crystal orb with the same weapon, they can unlock many new weapon variants of that type and level them up as well. Also, couldn’t care about Filo wanted to cook that oversized chicken nor cared too much about Raphtalia. I loved the 1st opening.

So that’s my favourite 4 isekai shows. I’ll be very interested to see how the peeps nominated, which shows they will post on.

Hey up everyone, this is Roki. I’m just your typical guy who loves anime and videogames. I do have a daft sense of humour. Do love the paranormal, supernatural, mysteries, myths, folklore and legends

Log horizon was a little bit different than the usual isekai anime I saw back then I really loved Shiro as a “Villain” Protag somehow?

Like it was a very strategic way of approaching the mmo side and I also agree with you on everything you said hahaha I liked the “political” involvement as well didn’t watch s3 yet but I had my hopes up.

(database will always be op anime opening ;v;)

Did you watch otome hametsu?

Please tell me you thoughts on when you watch it someday! it because I personally thought of it as a different kind of isekai anime even though the whole Villainess story is hilarious !

Thanks for the tag! I’m going to try to challenge this. My post might be slow/late though since I am going through a busy/tough time right now, but I’m gonna try to write about this. The hard part is narrowing down to my Top 4 anime (mostly because most of my isekai now-a-days are from Korean webtoons).

Oh boy. I’m not sure if you know this Roki. But I have a pretty shaky relationship with Isekai as a general rule.
I’ve actually got a pice written about it in relation to Faraway Paladin that’s going up next week.
After that though, I guess I could scramble together some kind of list before I get into my Game of the year lists.

I’ll look forward to it.
I’ve got a lot of stuff to write before the end of the year.
I’m doing something different with my top ten anime list this year and am waiting till the current anime season is basically over before I start posting it. So I’ve got a lot of list writing to do right up until mid Jan. haha.

Nice! It’s been a while since a tag post made the rounds. I’ll be sure to get to work on my responses. Log Horizon is the only one of those that I haven’t seen (I’ve been meaning to for a while and when I did the first season had vanished from streaming. I’ll get to it soonish…).

Love the other choices. Not sure how I’m going to narrow my selections down to four, but I’ll give it a go.
