Checking out Arifureta, Isekai Cheat Magician, Boogiepop and others

Seeing what two summer shows and one from spring are like.

Watched Episodes 1-3

I’ve decided to shake up my 1st impressions post abit by watching at least two concurrent airing shows and one from last season.

To get a summary of the show, just click on the linked sub heading. That way I don’t have to explain everything.

Arifureta: from commonplace to world strongest

A 2000 anime that is airing in 2019

Meh. This looks like it’s a 2000 anime rather than a 2019. Had such high hopes for it, as usual it looks like it’s another dud for me. The one thing I do like about Arifuerta is that Hajime learns or unlocks new skill sets by killing then eating the monster he has just killed. The problem is, it makes him over powered in a relative short time – from weakest to strongest. I wonder if there is any draw backs to this, it doesn’t make it clear. Another interesting thing about Arifuerta is that is has a bunch of kids going to another world, not just on one person. I have another issue, at times the show is so damn dark to see anything!. I mean do I have up the brightness to see what the hell is going on. Anyway, one thing that did get me some what laughing, the class idol gets punched in the stomach then wakes up 5 days later. What, a punch knocked her out that long, or were they using sleeping spells to keep her a sleep. Anyway, dropped at this stage.

Isekai Cheat Magician

Isekai Cheat Magician
Not too shabby

A very down the middle lane, if that’s how best I can describe cheat magician. It isn’t fantastic, nor is it bad. Cheat magician doesn’t try to hide the fact that Rin and Taichi are vastly OP, if anything in the first 3 episodes, they try to do the exact opposite. Down play that they are both OP, especially Taichi. The other good thing about cheat magician is that at least the main leads are starting out from the bottom, despite them being OP and not elevated to high ranked adventures from the get go. Of course the biggest strong point, is that it does NOT use an rpg mechanic, like most contemporary isekai show uses. It’s an all out power fantasy isekai show. One thing I didn’t understand is how Taichi got absurd stats, yet Rin get stats that aren’t even near to his – extremely high for the natives in the world they’re in. And of course, it’s pretty obvious that there are romantic feelings between them. What else you expect from childhood friends. Anyway, I’m going to see how this goes.

Boogiepop and others

Boogiepop and others first impression
Down right confusing….

Confusing as heck!!. I guess the way the narrative is told is very unchronological, I guess??. I can see why a lot of people found boogiepop really hard to follow and even understand what it tried to convey. I managed to follow a small sample of the story, but only by binge watching the first two episodes. I somewhat remember what went on by the third episode. Boogiepop is hard to describe what it’s really about. The story is just all over the place, at the same time it tells a story that kind of makes sense???. It can be hard to remember the characters names (without looking it up) and boy hell is there a lot of dialogue to follow. Half the time, I can’t remember what they said from the previous scene, as it moves so dang fast. It is quite remarkable, that a show that isn’t action orientated, has the pace of one. And it doesn’t even use many action sequences in the first place!. Boogiepop has this ability to draw you in, at the same time get you lost in it’s narrative, both figuratively and literally. So, where do I stand on this? I’ll continue on with it.

Scribble down, and I’ll catch you on the next post!
